Last week, the BBC introduced its iPlayer for iPhone app for UK tv license payers. The app permits domestic viewers to look at live BBC TV and radio and watch catch-up TV over Wi-Fi and 3G.
It's a major app within the UK and was downloaded one.1 million times in its 1st week of availability, with 500,000 of these downloads to users who had never downloaded the iPlayer app previously. The BBC told the Guardian newspaper that sixteen.5 million programs are watched on the mobile version of iPlayer to this point this year, up 129 % year-over-year.
Chris Elphick, senior designer leading the BBC iPlayer iPhone App project, lays out the thoughts and processes behind the look of the iPlayer for iPhone UI. For a significant project which will be employed by several individuals, in depth testing and style is critical to form the app each easy-to-use and to avoid unnecessarily taxing 3G and Wi-Fi networks.
BBC iPlayer could be a universal app for iPhone and iPad, free on the App Store for uk users solely.
The BBC international iPlayer app, that was updated earlier this month, is on the market in most of Western Europe and Canada -- and is coming back to the us. The app does not have the Live-TV, DVR and television catch-up options that the British version will -- instead, it is a video-on-demand subscription service that offers access to chose parts of the BBC archive.
